Use case 1
Challenges for the Ocean UC
Consolidating marine community standards and using AI to streamline data transfer from scientists to data centres and aggregators (SDN)

Challenges for the Ocean UC
- 1Existence of multiple standards with lack of easily accessible cross-walks and converters and uneven standards adoption confuse users and hinder data integration;
- 2Retrospective information gathering by data stewards rather than scientific experts leads to inefficiencies and errors;
- 3Data fragmentation and duplication across repositories is worsened by limited access to provenance information;
- 4Missing or hard to access information about method, quality, and provenance limits reusability and makes integration cumbersome;
- 5Scientists having to submit variations of the same data or information in different standards and formats for different infrastructures, networks and systems waste time and resources.
The CDIF4EOSC Playbook will enable UC1 to test
- 1AI-assisted API for metadata enhancement (challenges 1, 2, 3);
- 2AI-assisted I-ADOPT decomposition of existing variable vocabularies like the BODC Parameter Usage Vocabulary -PUV- (P01) and the Climate and Forecast (CF) Standard Names (P07) (challenges 1, 2, 5);
- 3Access to crosswalks between standards (challenges 1, 5);
- 4Format and standard converters (challenge 5);
- 5RO-Crate packaging service for quality and provenance information within the existing ocean data pipelines (challenges 2, 3, 4).
