CDIF4EOSC Public Webinar: Introducing the Project and CDIF v1.1

October 5, 2026
On 2 July 2026, the CDIF4EOSC consortium hosted its first public webinar, bringing together 74 participants from across Europe and beyond to introduce the project and mark the release of CDIF v1.1.
The webinar provided an opportunity to present the vision and objectives of CDIF4EOSC and explore the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF), its practical applications and its role in supporting interoperability within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
Introducing CDIF and its role in supporting FAIR data
A central focus of the webinar was the presentation of the foundations and evolution of CDIF, alongside the newly released CDIF v1.1.
Participants explored how CDIF aims to support the practical implementation of the FAIR principles – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable -across research domains. Rather than creating new standards, CDIF provides practical guidance to facilitate the use and implementation of existing standards and approaches and improve interoperability across different research communities and infrastructures.
The session also introduced the objectives and roadmap of the CDIF4EOSC project, providing participants with an overview of the work that will be carried out throughout the project.
From the framework to practical implementation
The webinar highlighted how CDIF4EOSC will explore the practical implementation of cross-domain interoperability through three pilot Use Cases covering Climate, Ocean and Social Sciences.
These Use Cases will provide concrete contexts in which to explore and demonstrate the application of CDIF across different research domains.
Participants were also introduced to future developments planned within the project, including tools, services and implementation profiles designed to support interoperability across research domains and infrastructures.
An opportunity for exchange with the community
Beyond introducing the project and CDIF v1.1, the webinar provided an opportunity for discussion and exchange with participants.
The session generated questions and discussions around several key topics for cross-domain interoperability, including metadata interoperability, FAIR implementation, signposting, AI agents and data discovery. Participants also discussed the potential adoption and application of CDIF across EOSC Nodes, Research Infrastructures and Data Spaces.
These exchanges provided valuable feedback and perspectives from the wider community as CDIF4EOSC begins its activities.
The beginning of a collaborative journey
This first public webinar marked an important step in launching CDIF4EOSC and engaging with the communities that will contribute to and benefit from its activities.
With 74 participants, the event demonstrated strong interest in the challenges surrounding cross-domain interoperability and FAIR data integration. It also laid the foundations for continued exchanges between the consortium and the wider research and data communities.
The CDIF4EOSC consortium would like to thank all participants, speakers and contributors for their engagement, questions and valuable feedback.
Further webinars, training activities and opportunities to engage with and contribute to CDIF4EOSC will be organised throughout the project. Stay tuned for upcoming activities and developments.
