SUMMARY:RDA 27th Plenary Meeting (P27)
DESCRIPTION:The Research Data Alliance (RDA) 27th Plenary Meeting (P27) will take place at The Kia Oval\, London\, United Kingdom\, from 6th to 8th October 2026 as an in-person event. We recognise this format marks a significant shift from recent practice and may prevent some community members from participating- a decision we have not taken lightly. \n\n\nSince 2020\, RDA plenary meetings have been either fully virtual or hybrid\, ensuring broad accessibility during and beyond the pandemic. P27 represents a deliberate pilot of a new approach: pairing an in-person plenary in the second half of each year with a fully virtual plenary in the first half. This model aims to balance the distinct benefits of both formats whilst ensuring equitable opportunities for engagement throughout the year. \n\n\nEnhancing the In-Person Experience \n\n\nWorking closely with our local hosts\, UKRI\, we are developing new components specifically designed to welcome newcomers and facilitate deeper involvement in RDA activities. We understand that active participation – whether through presenting\, chairing sessions\, or contributing to group discussions – strengthens the case for travel investment and enriches the cross-pollination of ideas that makes RDA distinctive. \n\n\nPast surveys consistently highlight what participants value most about in-person attendance: the global networking opportunities and the serendipitous conversations across disciplines and stakeholder communities that are difficult to replicate virtually. \n\n\nThe Reality of Hybrid Delivery \n\n\nDelivering high-quality hybrid events requires substantial resources. The audio-visual equipment\, technical staff\, and platform support necessary to serve virtual participants well represents a considerable cost that\, in recent years\, could no longer be offset by in-person and virtual registration fees alone. As conference costs rise and sponsorship becomes increasingly challenging to secure\, we must make strategic choices about where to invest our limited resources. \n\n\nWhen we ask attendees – whether in person or virtual – to pay registration fees\, they rightly expect excellent service. This pilot allows us to focus our efforts on creating an outstanding experience for those who can attend in London whilst developing a robust virtual alternative in March 2027 for those who cannot. \n\n\nAfter the event \n\n\nCommunity members who were unable to attend will be able to access the RDA group sessions’ breakout meeting notes and the slidesets / powerpoint presentations made available by the session organisers. As there is no suitable audio visual equipment in the breakout rooms\, no recordings will be made or published. The RDA Secretariat and Technical Advisory Board will deliver reports on the content presented and feedback received. This pilot will be evaluated and discussed with Council and relevant RDA governance boards after the event to ensure that the RDA continues to deliver value to stakeholders and support the advancement of open and collaborative research data practices globally.

SUMMARY:CDIF4EOSC Partners to participate in the EOSC Symposium\, Florence
DESCRIPTION:Representatives from CDIF4EOSC partner organisations will be taking part in this year’s Symposium. This will be an opportunity to engage directly with the wider EOSC community and contribute to discussions on the emerging EOSC Federation. Come and visit us and find out more about the project at our booth! \nFrom the EOSC website\nThe EOSC Symposium 2026 will demonstrate the unique value that EOSC brings to the Union’s research and innovation programme\, with the EOSC Federation taking centre stage. \nLaunched at last year’s Symposium as “the backbone of Europe’s digital research and innovation ecosystem\,” the EOSC Federation is rapidly expanding and maturing into a new strategic asset for Europe’s research\, innovation\, and digital sovereignty agendas. This year’s event will mark its formal transition into operations. \nOrganised by the EOSC Association with the support of the EOSC Gravity project\, the EOSC Symposium 2026 will bring the EOSC community together in Florence on 14–16 October at the Palazzo dei Congressi. \nThis flagship event is the must-attend gathering for everyone driving the future of Europe’s research data ecosystem—from policymakers and funders to researchers\, infrastructure leaders\, data stewards\, and more. Over three days\, participants will connect\, share insights\, and celebrate the latest progress concerning EOSC and the EOSC Federation.

SUMMARY:Building the EOSC Federation: Progress\, Practice and Lessons from across Europe
DESCRIPTION:How is the EOSC Federation taking shape across Europe\, and what opportunities does it offer researchers\, research organisations and the wider research and innovation community? \nINSPIRING ERA invites you to join a European online event on 22 October 2026\, 14:30–16:30 CEST\, organised in collaboration with the EOSC Association. \nThe European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a key European initiative supporting Open Science and strengthening the European Research Area. At its heart\, the emerging EOSC Federation is connecting research data\, services and infrastructures across Europe\, making it easier for researchers to discover\, access and use resources across borders and disciplines. For researchers\, research organisations\, funders and policymakers\, it has the potential to change how knowledge and research resources are shared and used across Europe. \nAs the EOSC Federation enters its implementation phase\, understanding what it offers is becoming increasingly relevant across the European research and innovation community. This online INSPIRING ERA event will take stock of progress and explore what the Federation means in practice for different parts of the research and innovation community. \nBringing together perspectives from European policy\, the EOSC community\, EOSC Nodes and research\, the event will share practical experiences and emerging lessons from across Europe. It will consider the value the Federation can offer to researchers and research organisations\, alongside the opportunities and challenges associated with its continued development and wider uptake across the European Research Area. \nThe event is aimed at a broad European research and innovation audience\, including researchers and research organisations\, policymakers\, funders\, research managers\, Open Science and research data professionals\, and research infrastructure and e-infrastructure providers. \nOrganised by INSPIRING ERA in collaboration with the EOSC Association this event is part of a series of online events supporting the implementation of the European Research Area Policy Agenda.
